Our History

Adams and Ruxton workers in early 1900's

From Humble Beginnings

We have been fortunate enough to serve the western Massachusetts community for more than 110 years. Our history can be traced back to 1909 as the Bernie & Ruxton Construction Company, which had a specialized focus on railroad construction.

Three years later, Arthur Adams, the former head of the Springfield Department of Public Works (and future Mayor of Springfield), joined the company and partnered with Edward Ruxton to form Adams & Ruxton Construction, Inc.

Over the years, our company has evolved to fill the needs of the ever-changing construction industry—from railroads and underground utilities to buildings and financial institutions to clean rooms and medical facilities.

The Modern Age and Future Growth

Our continuous focus on growth and commitment to the community remains firm. Dorothy Ostrowski purchased Adams & Ruxton Construction Company and became the president in 2019. Under her leadership, Adams & Ruxton is a veteran- and woman-owned construction company, signatory with Carpenters’ Union Local 336 and Laborers’ Union Local 999. We now operate throughout New England, taking on projects in both the public and private commercial sectors.

We take great pride in all aspects of the construction process, especially fine finish work and renovations, but we possess the capacity to take on any commercial project including new construction, millwork installations, site work, repair and maintenance and more. Our partnerships are our critical to our success—we give each project the personal attention and commitment it requires to ensure our clients are satisfied.
